Ross Barnett Fish Report Jackson, Mississippi
Ross Barnett-South Central Mississippi
Ever since 1966 when Ross Barnett Reservoir filled, anglers have been drawn to the lake. It is an extremely shallow impoundment (the average depth is about five feet), and there are vast areas of stumpy flats, which are generally good for bass fishing. Ross Barnett ranks as a favorite bass fishing spot for many fishermen throughout the South.
Fishing Report
March 30, 2010
The fishing on Ross Barnett is very good, the Bass are moving in to spawn
and are easy to catch, go to the large flats like in back of number seven
or number nine look for pad stems that are dead go as far back as you can,
be very quite move as little as possible and look for movement. When you
see anything move throw a Lizard or a Footloose with the Lizard just reel
it in like a spinner bait, with the Footloose a stop and go retrieve works
well. This will work on a cloudy day or just before dark. Pay close
attention to the water temp as is gets to the 60's it is on fire.
Above 43 is good as well, the areas will be the flats off the main river
use the same technique as above it will work good.
Please remember this is a time where catch and release is very important
if you want to do this again next year. Have fun and save some for our
kids.
Good fishing
